Terror Tract (Horror Anthology Series pt 5)

R.I.P. Jon Ritter 1948-2003

Starring the late Great John Ritter, Terror Tract is a solid anthology horror film. Some creepy stuff here. I particularly like the Granny serial killer story. A must see for Anthology horror completists. I recommend ya grab ya self some popcorn ,some 4Loko, and sit down with ya wifey and enjoy this little slice of goodness J.R. left us to enjoy.

From a Whisper To a Scream a.k.a The Offspring (Horror Anthology Series pt 4)

I used to see this under the title "The Offspring"(Directed by Jeff Burr) at the local video store all the time when I was a kid. I rented it under the title "From a Whisper To a Scream" and was very pleased. If you see this film for one reason, let that reason be Clu Gulager's(Return of the Living Dead) performance. Its frickin awesome. On top of that you got voodoo, a necrophilia baby,a glass eater(who gets his in a horrible way), and a group of vengeful savage civil war orphans. The gore is pretty graphic and well done. We got four stories and a wraparound that features Vincent Price. You cant go wrong.

Chillers (Anthology Horror Series pt 3)

Whoooo lord! The acting. Dear lord the acting. We got five stories with a wraparound here, and the cheese content couldnt be higher. Chillers (Directed by Daniel Boyd), Definitely feels at home being released by Troma. While 90% of the acting kills it, there are some cool ideas here and its worth a watch simply for the laughs.

Double Feature: Trick r' Treat & Late Fee (Anthology Horror Series pt 2)

There has been a lovely little resurgence of anthology horror, and here are two fine examples. Late Fee (Directed by John Carchietta & Carl Morano), is a low budget two story with wrap around number that delivers some mildly decent entertainment. The first story is a "dick ripping" good time , while the second story is on some crazy hostel type shit. The same actors and actresses are used throughout both tales, Trilogy of Terror style. Definitely low budget not bad not great either ,but you cant go wrong with an R.A. The Rugged Man(cult rapper and producer of Bad Biology)cameo. A recommended viewing for the horror anthology completist only. Trick r' Treat (Directed by Michael Dougherty) changes the format of the horror anthology and blends all four stories together without separation through titled sections. Apparently shelved for a few years because of Warner Bros claims that the film "wasnt marketable", Trick r' Treat is a fun, atmospheric, & genuinely creepy film. Its hard to believe the film wouldnt have been successful if released during during September or October. With notable performances by Brian Cox, Anna Paquin, & Dylan Baker it is well worth checking out. Yet another film added to the permanent Halloween watch list. Very Recommended.

Screams Of A Winter Night (Anthology Horror Series pt 1)

Probably one of my most favorite finds of all time. Ive been on a real long bender of nothing but straight anthology horror films this month(my next ten reviews will be horror anthology films), and this one came highly recommended. Way ahead of its time and genuinely creepy. Would have given me nightmares as a kid. There isnt really any gore or anything. The film plays more on what you would imagine in your head. One of the creepiest parts of the film occurs during the credits! I will definitely be viewing my bootleg of this every halloween from now on. 3 stories with a kickass wraparound. Go find yourself a copy of this now.

Very Recommended

Tibor Takacs' Mosquito Man

Better than I thought it was gonna be, Tibor Takacs does a fine job in the directors chair considering what he had to work with. Im not dissing Corin Nemec(Parker Louis cant lose was my shit homie) , but Tibor was hired to make a knock off of "The Fly", and its not that bad. I give him props for rocking practical effects with CGI.

The Hanging Woman

I love finding a zombie flick I havent heard of or seen yet. Unfortunately I kept falling asleep during this one. I remember a mustache man whos keeps getting girls naked then the mustache man does some other stuff. And theres zombies or something. Paul Naschy is in it.

Hell's Ground (Zibhakana)

Pakistan's first gore film. Need I say more? Of course I do dumbass. Zombies, a creepy hitchhiker dude, and a hooded killer with a morning star all await you in this fine delicacy. Definitely reminiscent of Fulci, Hell's Ground is well worth a watch for the zombie film completist. The soundtrack aint half bad either.

The Fourth Kind

The Fourth Kind. I have mixed feelings about this film. On one hand I thought the "real archival footage" was stupid and EXTREMELY fake & the split screens were an awful idea that did not work. On the other hand I feel the movie contains one of the SCARIEST abduction scenes ever put on film. Overall I recommend you see it for yourself and be the judge. The film plays itself as if it were intermingled with actual interviews with abduction victims, but the footage is obviously faked. Another thing I didnt like is how aware the film makes you about the actors portraying "real" people. From the beginning there are an abundance of subtitles that say "Mila Jovovich as doctor Abigail Tyler" and so on. The abductions, however, are really fucking creepy and there is a few hypnosis sessions that get really freaky. As far as I know, there were many disappearances in Nome,Alaska but none of them were connected with alien abductions. So that is were the film gets the whole "Based on actual case studies" from.

overall- Kinda of stupid/Kind of scary

Ruben Galindo Jr Double Feature: Cemetery Of Terror & Grave Robbers

I had heard so many reviewers trash these two films that i had to see them. Thankfully i found them both online for cheap as hell in one double sided disc. I feel after watching these that Ruben Galindo Jr is the Mexican Lucio Fulci. Straight up. I loved these films, because of the the crappy quality. Great stuff, great atmosphere, great cheese. Recomended.

Pontypool

Along side Dead Snow, Pontypool proves that the zombie genre can still be original. I'll make this quick. If you like zombie flicks and appreciate when filmmakers come at the genre in a new way, then you need to see this. A secluded radio station in the basement of a church is one of my new favorite places to envision the zombie apocalypse. There is a sequel to this film in the works as I write this so do yourself a favor and go see this fucking movie. Seriously go now.

The Wolfman

First off, dont see this because your expecting some classic performance by Benecio Del Toro, see this movie because of the brutal attack sequences and spooky atmosphere of Talbot Hall. Del Toro is definitely the weakest link of the film and he delivers a particularly deadpan performance, but with good supporting actors Emily Blunt, Anthony Hopkins, & Hugo Weaving the film manages to stay afloat aside from the awful thrown together love story. Now, with all of that out of the way I must say I was very entertained. Visually the film is badass as wind whips around corners of spooky mansions and town pubs while the full moon pours over dark fog drenched forests. The werewolf design is rather ballsy, sticking to the original flat dog face donned by Lon Chaney Jr in the original. But it works in my opinion, the transformation sequences are damn nice and creepy at times as well. The combination of dark jumpy dream sequences and fast gory attack scenes won me over in the end. This film is far gorier than I thought it would be. At least three beheadings I can think of and lots of other dismemberment. Overall I was glad to see a werewolf film that didnt try to redefine the genre, just polish it off and add some blood and guts. I was pleased. Oh and the feral Wolf boy was pretty damn creepy.

The Child

Atmospheric creepy goodness! I love dusting off gems. From Producer Harry Novak comes a creepy little picture that at times is truly erie. You dont get to fully see the undead fiends till the very end but the build up is truly worth it. I must say for the time period the make up is pretty damn nice. Check it.

-A Zombie Fiends must see

Del Tenney Triple Feature: I Eat Your Skin, The Curse of the Living Corpse, & The Horror of Party Beach

Del Tenney. Good guy. The Horror of party Beach is a spoof on beach movies and monster flicks. The monsters in the film are referred to as"zombies" for some reason although they are clearly undersea creatures. Its definitely a little ahead of its time. good stuff. The Curse of the Living Corpse is a murder mystery that I wasnt too crazy about. It stars a young Roy Scheider which was pretty cool. I Eat Your Skin is a funny little zombie flick that is on the same level as Horror of Party Beach, Probably my favorite of Tenney's films.

-The Horror of Party Beach-- Not bad
-The Curse of The Living Corpse--For die hard Roy Scheider fans only
-I Eat Your Skin--dope quirky little zombie flick

William Fruet Double Feature: Blue Monkey & Spasms

Sweet! Yet another genre director that has slipped threw my grasp all these years. I had been restricted from watching these by my parents when i was little. But I remember starring at the covers longingly during trips to 16,000 movies(RIP) in Orlando. Blue Monkey Stars Steve Railsback (of Tobe hoopers' Lifeforce fame) as a detective investigating the strange goings on at County Memorial hospital. An old man is brought in after coming in contact with an exotic flower. The man later vomits up a larvae that turns into a giant insect or Blue Monkey if you will. There is a wonderful finale that includes Steve Railsback, a laser, and the Blue Monkey. Definitely a nice giant insect flick in the wake of David Cronenberg's The Fly. Spasms stars Oliver Reed ,Peter Fonda & Kerrie Keane. Its a delightful little film about a giant demonic snake that Oliver Reed's character somehow has a psychic link too. The film includes some pretty godamn decent attack scenes. The giant snakes bites inflicts severe swelling and the SFX used are pretty entertaining to watch. I was feeling it yo. Mad Props William Fruet, im looking forward to checking out Death Weekend, Trapped and some of your other genre flicks.

-Blue Monkey-worth checking out if your a giant mutant insect fan or a Steve Railsback fan
-Spasms-Mandatory viewing for fans of giant snakes

peace out

The Corpse Eaters

Ah yes! Lawrence Zazelenchuk's masterpiece has finally arrived! Directed by Donald R. Passmore & Klaus Vetter, (Zazelenchuk Produced it,Wrote the screenplay, & Handled all zombie makeup duties)This Canadian delicacy has been an elusive legend for several years, but I finally found a place that dubs copies of it out of michigan called encore video. I must say this film is far more odd than I ever thought it would be. The soundtrack alone is worth the watch. The zombies look pretty damn good considering the budget. My only complaint is that the movie finishes up in less than an hour & it leaves you wanting a bit more. Overall I think this film is awesome and I recommend that any gorehound/horror nerd check this out pronto!

-The Corpse Eaters= Cult Classic Status

John "Bud" Cardos Triple Feature: Mutant, Skeleton Coast, & The Day Time Ended

Ahhhhh...John "Bud" Cardos.....the mark of quality. I liked The "Dark" and "Kingdom of the Spiders" so much that i picked up these other three films by Cardos. "Mutant" starring Wings Hauser is a pleasant little zombie flick thats worth checking out. It includes a nice transformation sequence and if you have ever scene Gary Sherman's "Vice Squad" then you already know how awesome Wings Hauser can be. Skeleton Coast.Ernest Borgnine.Robert Vaughn.Oliver Reed. "Its the Wild Bunch meets the Dirty Dozen by way of Platoon!"-Troma.Nuff said. "The Day Time Ended" is a stop motion heavy sci-fi time travel alien encounter film which I am going to have to watch again just cuz it was awesome and i cant remember exactly why. All in all John "Bud" Cardos is a good guy, I got his back.

-Mutant--dope
-Skeleton Coast-- worth a watch for cheese factor and Oliver Reeds performance alone
-The Day Time Ended--The awesome city of light & crystal awaits you

peace
